Yesterday I stopped by 2SER Breakfast with Tim Brunero to give a quick news update on the latest Australian political upheaval surrounding Barnaby Joyce’s attempted spill and the Greens leadership transition, as well as the Iowa caucus app crash and the Australian Open’s controversial decision to give Margaret Court a lifetime achievement trophy.
We’re back for 2020! It’s summer music festival season so we look at huge new Aussie hip hop drill group ONEFOUR, and the NSW Police shutting down their debut national tour, pressuring them into changing their lyrics and even trying to get their music taken down off the internet. Will taking the anti-authoritarianism out of Aussie hip-hop turn us into Russia or China? Or should ONEFOUR just pretend to be old white men so they get left alone? Also ScoMo raps!
In fact big I split it in two parts on Youtube. In the first part we look at Prime Minister Scott Morrison spending the bushfire season drinking cocktails in Hawaii while Australian burns in a massive bushfire emergency.
Then News Fighters looks back at all the hilarious wacky clips and gaffes in politics and dumb Aussie news in 2019*. From baby Yoda to Barnaby’s meltdowns to bushfires to Hong Kong democracy protests to Greta Thunberg’s climate strike and ScoMo’s White House state dinner, take look back on the year and weep… hopefully with laughter! (* may contain four elections).
Also includes a look back the year in pop culture with special guest Stefan Pazur.
2019 is almost over but not without one more election episode of News Fighters, this time from the U.K. (sorry Bougainvilleans!) Is this election about Brexit, the NHS or is it just one long argument over whether numbers are a left wing conspiracy? We look at all the hilarious and headache inducing gaffes from the campaign so far and then dial in author and the producer/presenter of Russell Brand’s Trews Reports, John Rogers to give us some actual election insight and analysis. Check out John’s website at http://thelostbyway.com/
Also in case you missed it we did a whole episode on Boris Johnson when he became PM back in July:
We got a new episode out in your feeds and on Youtube!
While a bushfire crisis and catastrophic drought engulfs the country, Australia’s politicians think it’s the perfect time to start blaming each other and triggering their opponents. We also look at Barnaby Joyce’s failed magnetism, Rupert Murdoch’s climate denier denial, Alan Jones’ cow obsession and why Scott Morrison should send thoughts and prayers to himself!
Out now! It’s our double-double length look at the unpredictable 2019 Canadian election. We look at all the political parties’ bad 90’s-rock style theme songs, why Justin Trudeau can’t escape the brown face incident, Andrew Scheer’s weird pants-based catchphrases, the multicultural racism of Quebec and how Australia could provide an answer to Canada’s political uncertainty. Also expect Rush and Bryan Adams jokes.
In the fourth and final episode of our pilot week guest host Dan Ilic cherry picks at Energy Minister Angus Taylor’s appearance on Insiders this morning. Also ABC broadcaster and American political podcaster Josh Szeps drops by to talk Scott Morrison in Washington, the 2020 Democrat candidates and the most important issue on breakfast television. And finally we check in with our new finance reporter Rodney Todd.
As part of our daily show pilot week, host Jake Stone deconstructs the headlines of the week you may have missed, then The Chaser’s Chris Taylor talks us through all the political clips from the week including all the Gladys-related gaffes.
This episode written by Jake Stone, Chris Taylor, Dave Bloustien and Stefan Pazur, and written, edited and produced by Dylan Behan.
Hey! Finally out! The first episode of our daily episode pilot week, comedian Greta Lee Jackson guest hosts and we look at Canberra’s parliamentary Midwinter Ball (now in Spring!), NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s near-spill experience over legalising abortion and the rocky start for Pauline Hanson’s new family law inquiry. Now in your podcast feed or listen/watch below!
This episode written by Greta Lee Jackson, Lauren Bonner, Michael Chamberlin and Matt Lane. It was written, edited and produced by Dylan Behan.
I’m finally proud to announce NEWS FIGHTERS is drafting in some amazingly funny and talented hosts, writers and guests next week to do a pilot week of DAILY EPISODES!!!… with the aim of launching a daily news comedy podcast in 2020 (if there’s any generous and benevolent media organisations out there interested in funding it!).
Here’s the lineup of presenters and guests for next week as they stand (subject to change because booking comedians is like herding cats)
Thursday September 19: Greta Lee Jackson (Tonightly with Tom Ballard, Skit Box)
Friday September 20: Jake Stone (lead singer of Bluejuice) with special guest Chris Taylor (of The Chaser).
Saturday Sept 21: Mark Humphries (ABC’s 730, SBS’s The Feed)
Sunday Sept 22: Dan Ilic (A Rational Fear, Hungry Beast)
We’ll be releasing the episodes nightly into your podcasts feeds and on YouTube as usual. Should be a big week so tune in and tell your friends!
New episode out today in your feeds and on Youtube: Fresh from abandoning the entire South Pacific over climate change, Scott Morrison decides to declare war on leftie activist group, GetUp! Why? Why not! We look at his claims about their subversive evil activities and why it actually would be better if they became a dumb lying political party. Watch and listen below!
On our latest ep we look at Alan Jones blaming the Sydney stabbing rampage on a lack of Doris Day movies and fruit paintings (?!?!) as well as the Aussies inconvenienced by the Hong Kong protests.
We also look at the Australian press freedom inquiry and then discuss the state of satire in Australia in our first ever interview with Greta Lee Jackson on the first anniversary of the axing of the late night show Tonightly with Tom Ballard. Listen & watch below!
Finally a new episode is out! And it’s all about the influence of Australia on Boris Johnson, the leading candidate to be British PM. Spent over a month researching and writing this one (mostly due to other work) but made sure to avoid all the usual wacky Boris clips you’ve seen a thousand times before. A lot of work went into it and I’m really proud of it. Watch and listen below:
Also our Soundcloud account is chockas so listen below on Libsyn or on your favourite podcast app:
